Mountain bike trails
Wesenufer is the gateway between the two mountain bike trail systems of Sternenland (in the Hausruck Nord region, five trails, total length of 155 km covering 3,945 vertical metres) and Mühlviertler-Granitland (in the western Muehlviertel region, total length of 950 km).
Mountain biking – Sternenland
The Sternenland mountain bike area is located in the Hausruck Nord region, south of the Schlögener Loop, and resembles a large basin in the landscape, stretching across the 12 northernmost municipalities of the Grieskirch district.
This landscape is punctuated by outcroppings of solid Bohemian granite, together with numerous mountain ridges, rivers and streams. Mountain bike trails in the area extend through all six northern municipalities (Natternbach, Neukirchen, Eschenau, St. Agatha, Peuerbach and Waldkirchen) of the region. Most of the trails run alongside the roads, both uphill and downhill through the valleys and over the high ridges of the Hausruck Nord region. The stunning forested landscape offers numerous beautiful lookout points and sights of interests (the Valley of Seven Mills, a view of Hengstberg, the Koaserin nature preserve, Hammerschmiede, the Paschinger Hügel and the Vierviertelblick lookout). The region is an insider’s tip for energetic, nature-loving single holidaymakers and families.
The Sternenland trails also connect to the MTB Arena Granitland in Muehlviertel, via the Danube bridge in Wesenufer or the Danube ferry in Obermühl.
MTB Arena Granitland in Muehlviertel
Granitland is a mountainous region bordered by the Kleinen Mühl river and the Danube, and crossed by the Pesenbachtal valley and the Grosser Mühl. Magnificent observation points such as the Burgstall in Kirchberg or the amazing view from Altenfelden offer a unique experience to adventurous mountain bikers. A truly extraordinary feature is the “Resilacke” in Kleinzell: a lake surrounded by granite cliffs, inviting riders to stop, have a swim and cool off on warm summer days.
The MTB Arena stretches across more than 36 Mühlviertel municipalities. 17 professionally designed routes lead through the granite landscape of the Mühlviertel, offering many ambitious trails, crisp altitudes and diverse descents to suit riders of all levels – hobby cyclists, casual riders or groups.
